Piercing Aftercare

Tips to Heal Well

Keeping your piercing clean during the healing process is the most important key to successful healing. Follow these steps to ensure your piercing heals properly.

Wash Your Hands

  • Make sure to wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds before cleaning your piercing.

Clean Properly

  • Fold a sheet of paper towel moistened with non-antibacterial soap or aftercare solution clean the back and the front of the piercing. This will allow the liquid to completely infiltrate your piercing.
  • Washing your piercing in the shower or just running warm water over the piercing is the best way to clean the pierced area. Running warm water over the piercing will gently soften scabs and other debris. Gently dry the front and back of the piercing with a clean paper towel.

After Care

  • Spray aftercare solution or other saline solution to the front and back of the piercing.

Things to Avoid

  • Do not touch piercing with dirty hands as this can cause an infection.
  • Do not move, rotate, twist, or remove your piercing. This is one of the biggest causes of irritations and complications.
  • Do not get animal hair and other debris in the piercing.
  • Do not sleep on your piercing.
  • Do not submerge your piercing in any body of water. You will be exposing yourself to bacteria and risk of infection.
  • Do not use alcohol, peroxide, tea tree oils or any other type of ointment.
  • Do not use cotton or any other fabric that may leave fibers or residue behind.
  • Do not change your jewelry prior to your piercer’s recommendation.

Keep in Mind

  • You may have irritation, bleeding, swelling, dryness, etc. They are part of the healing process. Everyone’s body is different, so it can take up to a year to completely heal. Complications can occur at any time during the healing process, so be patient and diligent.
